Spiritual Reasons Behind Minimalism

Minimalism : My Spiritual Reasons Behind the Practice

Minimalism is different for everyone – thus, why they practice it has many different answers. I wrote this post for you guys in order to share my personal reasons behind my minimalism approach. Why? Because social media is really good at only showing us surface level aspects. For example : incredible white, pristine, almost empty houses . . . or homes with so much organization and simplicity that they barely look lived in. That’s NOT my minimalism.

My Minimalism Means Less is More

Less really is more, more often times than not. Less stuff = more space. I’m one of those people who can’t really stand clutter in my home. Almost everything has its own place ; I say almost because we DO live in a “tiny home” at the moment. When we moved here, is when I really embraced minimalism. I had no idea just how much we had. To paint a picture : we moved from 2000 square feet (3bd, 2 bth) into 670 square feet. After I realized how much of the “stuff” I held onto were things I hardly ever used, or completely forgotten about . . . I began to make it a conscious effort to only keep the bare minimum necessities in our home.

Less stuff = more appreciation. When we were moving, and I was bewildered by just how much we had, I realized how blessed I was, to have all these “things”. I was living so abundantly and didn’t even know it. Things that I once loved and were really excited about wound up shoved in the back of drawers and closets, or shoved under beds, or to the back of cupboards. They key phrase being, ‘once loved’. You see, just like people, material things can also stop serving your purpose. It’s GOOD to get rid of things that no longer serve you! (Would your higher self keep wearing underwear and socks that are holey and stained?)

When you get rid of things that no longer serve you, some amazing benefits automatically find their way to you

  • Renewed, inspirational, energy! Old things taking up space can cause stagnant energy in a home, which is why you tend to feel so much better after cleaning, putting things back where they go, and cleaning out closets, etc. By the Universe’s Law of Vacuum, when you get rid of something, something comes right back in, in order to fill the space. By not having loads of clutter that causes stuck energy, or by getting rid of old things that no longer serve you, you’re basically inviting a new, uplifting flow of energy.
  • An automatic, stronger and deeper sense of gratitude and appreciation for what you DO have. In case you didn’t know, gratitude is incredibly important for attracting the life of your dreams, and more abundance in general! Plus, who doesn’t love that warm and fuzzy feeling?
  • Having less makes it much easier to live presently.
  • When you get rid of things, you get to give back! Whether you drop stuff off at a Goodwill/Salvation Army, or post to a local free group, etc. you’re giving back – and thus, consciously increasing how the Law of Oneness and the Law of Cause and Effect are working for you. It will come back to you, in some form!

Minimalism made me a conscious consumer

Given my spiritual journey is about increasing my consciousness, this is a very important benefit of practicing minimalism.

I’m aware of the chemicals I bring into my home. The products I use to care for myself, my family, and my home are elected with purpose. When I am consciously shopping for household goods, I need them to meet my criteria :

  • Non-toxic for us
  • Eco-friendly products
  • Biodegradable packaging or packaging made with recycled materials
  • Cruelty free

When shopping for anything now, I stop and ask myself : “Does this serve me? Does this serve my purpose? Is this what my higher self would buy?” The reason for this is really simple. Even “little things” like purchases can be in or out of alignment with your higher self. Making conscious choices that mirror what the best version of yourself would do, gets you that much closer to that reality. It really is all the baby steps that get you places.

Aside from that, I also buy things with actual intention. Not because I “have to”. I buy groceries with the intention or nourishing my own human body, and my family’s. Self-care products are bought with the intention of appreciating my body, and taking care of it. Clothing is purchased with the intention of feeling confident and comfortable.

Minimalism makes money management easier. Like most households, we have a budget to stick to. Besides that budget, I have certain amounts to deposit into different savings accounts, plus the 10% I donate from every paycheck. Practicing minimalism helps keep things organized in the financial department. I never find myself browsing for hours in Target and then spending $150 that I didn’t intend to. That’s not to say that I ‘do without’, or never ‘treat myself’ (saving all the money from what would have been unnecessary spending just means I really treat myself). I’m not a tightwad, and I don’t manage my money ‘out of desperation’.

The simplicity that minimalism has added to my budget is phenomenal ; and something I didn’t really consider when deciding to leap into the practice. Being more confident and comfortable in managing your money also shows the Universe that you’re ready for more of it. πŸ˜‰

My Last, Best Intentional Purchases of 2021

With that said, I just had to share my latest (and last of 2021) conscious and intentional purchases. These have all been game-changers, and I wouldn’t share them if they were any less!

  • Wool Dryer Balls – I finally went with the wool balls, y’all. In order to stop using unhealthy, single use, disposable drier sheets and to replace toxic fabric softener. You also get 6 of them if you use this link for (currently) under $10! Plus, you can put a few drops of essential oils on them to make your laundry smell good!
  • 3-in-1 Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffuser & Himalayan Salt Lamp – I finally have an office again, and the old diffuser that I used before now resides in our bathroom. To avoid spills and the pure complication of moving it from room to room every time I wanted to use it, I found this gem! And oh my god, I LOVE this thing. The fact that its also a humidifier has really helped since our electric heat is so dry.
  • Obvi Grass-Fed Bovine Collagen Peptides – This stuff has not only done wonders for my hair, skin, and nails – but has improved the mobility of my joints too. Plus, the ‘Fruity’ and ‘Frosted’ cereal flavors are bomb. I’m on my second order of this stuff, and I plan on trying all the flavors.
  • Organic Mushroom Coffee – I got this for two reasons. One being that I was constantly forgetting to make coffee before bed, or set the timer for the coffee maker. Two being that I actually wanted to quit drinking so much coffee. All you have to do is mix this with water and warm it up, and it’s got the benefits of 7 different superfood mushrooms : Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, Shiitake, Maitake, and Turkey Tail. AND, it tastes just like coffee. I actually mix the collagen peptides mentioned above in this, with a splash of almond milk and its amazing.
  • Titanium Electric Milk Frother – Alright, even my husband loves this thing. It’s probably the best $12 I’ve ever spent. I use it in the morning to mix my mushroom coffee and collagen peptides but, it’s also good for making protein shakes, and mixing flavor packets into cups of water (instead of stirring with a straw or spoon).

Minimalism has actually given me more

Minimalism has increased my productivity and ability to be present. I don’t spend hours every weekend cleaning, nor do I find myself endlessly looking for something I’ve lost (that I’m not even sure I have anymore… when was the last time I even used that?). Minimalism makes it much easier to appreciate and care for what I already have. Practicing minimalism for me, means being aware and conscious of purchases . . .and the things I’m bringing into my home – Are they safe for us? The environment? In terms of money management, yup, minimalism has helped me there too – and not from a place of lack!

It actually hasnt been a year yet. It actually hasnt been a year yet.

The date, I believe, was Oct. 26, 2021

So, almost 8 months.

Almost 8 months ago I decided to step out of my comfort zone, and dive headfirst into the never-ending journey of bettering myself and understanding the Universe.

But that one decision has lead me on a path of constant, consistent growth in so many areas of my life.

One choice has done so much for me.

I decided to make it based on the ultimatum of "I'll give this way of life a shot for a year, and see where it gets me". πŸ€β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

I have experienced such exponential growth, in so many areas of my life since then, it'd astonishing.

And it hasn't even been a year; The Universe doesn't do time. That's a human thing.

So if you're waiting for the perfect timing to make a certain decision about something important... stop waiting and just make up your mind. The perfect time will never come; or at least you won't see it that way.

At the time the choice I made felt and seemed like a big one, but looking back... it was just one step on a brand new stairwell.
I really don't enjoy summer. πŸ˜…β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

I believe we've been conditioned to think that we should enjoy it. If you went through your younger years attending public schools, it was your vacation time. πŸ–οΈβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
So, of course, most kids would learn to enjoy the summer. . . there's no school.

Yeah no.
Earth is beautiful. πŸŒŽβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
The different seasons are equally energetically important and necessary for sustainable life.
🍁I love autumn: To be cozy, to witness the drastic change in color.
❄️I love winter: Snow-covered landscapes, seasonal foods, and traditions are what I look forward to all year.
🌷I like spring for the most part (minus the yearly tornadoes): My perennials come back, my birthday's in April, and I'm always inspired by small, new life emerging.
β˜€οΈI tolerate summer. I love the sunshine and longer days. But I have / n e v e r / enjoyed the heat. I grew up in Tampa, FL, and thought THAT heat was bad. πŸŒ΄β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
Boy, Alabama summers have Florida beat. They're brutal. πŸ₯΅
It's doesn't have to be a: It's doesn't have to be a:
"this or that", "black and white", "left or right"
type of situational decision when it comes to expanding your business.

You don't have to compromise in some areas in order to grow as a soul-led human being, and if you're running your business that way . . . it works the same!

And don't confuse prioritizing necessary behind-the-scenes tasks... with compromising in some departments because your energy is stretched thin.
This is easily one of my favorite corners in my ho This is easily one of my favorite corners in my house. I may or may not already be wondering how I'm going to recreate these vibes when we buy a home. 😜 Anyway . . .

I know I'm not the only one who does this (I can't be..), but... πŸŒˆβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Has anybody else come to the realization that they've been subconsciously recreating certain spaces from their childhood. Or good times in their life? πŸΈβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Spaces that you remember fondly, nostalgic places. It may have been a specific room or even just an area of a room. πŸŒ΄β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

I've had a few moments of clarity lately. A few moments of blissful awareness and understanding. . . that this is what I do A LOT when it comes to decorating and choosing what comes into my home. πŸ‘β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

These spaces I recreate are similar to ones I remember so well, ones that bring me a lot of comfort. The kind of comfort you feel when . . . you get homesick at your first sleepover, and your mom (or whoever) shows up at their door to your rescue. So, relief too.

Comfort. Relief. Safety. Relaxation. Cozy. Warm. Loved. πŸ’–
What Started out as Pinterst Pins for podcast epis What Started out as Pinterst Pins for podcast episodes turned into a complete visual rebranding. And the series of events that led to that are something I love most about the work I do.

And it's really not just the work that I do, but what it turns into: the underlying potential for long-lasting, impactful relationships

Someone asked me what kind of work I do the other Someone asked me what kind of work I do the other day. I answered.
What happened next caught me off guard. Instead of the usual look of bewilderment, they asked me what my favorite thing to do is.

I paused for a second and then blurted out "Graphic design or anything that can be or have creative or artistic elements". I'd never been asked that before. I went home that day and actually sat on that question and the answer I gave.

I wasn't sure it was true.

Which… was silly because I know that was just my intuition taking over and, something I've been trying to do is strengthen my relationship with it. I'm learning not to second-guess myself.

My absolute favorite way to be of service to others is to come up with solutions to their creative. . . "problems".

I've made custom clipart. I've made logos. Flyers. Websites. Prints & Wall DΓ©cor. Embroidery patterns. Email templates. and so much more because that's what I love, and thus what I tend to attract.

And those creative solutions always come easiest. They bring me the most joy and my clients are always over the moon about them. And that's what REALLY matters.
And that's why I love me some Abraham Hicks. βœ¨πŸŒ΄πŸƒπŸŒˆ
Ah, imposter syndrome. I think everybody has exper Ah, imposter syndrome. I think everybody has experienced imposter syndrome at least once. If not . . . I'd like to ask some questions πŸ˜…β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Seriously though, I've had many instances where I've let imposter syndrome take the lead: that is, not following through with something because it either wasn’t absolutely perfect or I didn't believe I could ever get it to that point, so why bother? I'd just never be able to do that good enough. πŸ™„β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

It's kept me from success, and an abundant, happy, fulfilling life. Yeah, LIFE. It was prevalent in all areas of my life, not just business.

I didn’t think I deserved to prosper. And if I did, it wouldn't last long.

I thought I was a terrible mother for always being too tired to enjoy these "little moments" that everybody speaks so fondly of. Not spending enough 1-on-1 time with my daughter. Giving in to her "fits", etc.

I believed I was a bad wife for going to bed with dishes in the sink, clothes in the drier and barely ever cooking.

I knew I had skills and talents but never thought I was good enough to make anything with them, or put them to use in a way that would benefit anybody.

We ALL have thoughts like this from time to time but they're also . . . all bull-πŸ’©.
It's sad to say that this familiar thought process completely determined my trajectory in life. Until I'd had enough.

One day I realized that imposter syndrome works along side the fear of what others will think of us and what we're doing. Fear of judgement. Once I got over that hump, I knew I could have whatever I wanted. Do whatever I wanted. Be whoever I wanted.

I was (still am) worthy and deserving of whatever I was going after, and what people thought about it had zero impact. I've evolved. πŸ§¬β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

And if you're suffering from it, I want you to know that you can too.
